Students from Middle School and the Sixth Form are welcome to join the School's Model United Nations club. MUN is distinguished from other debating activities by its simultaneous focus on pressing issues and the need to forge alliances with others who may approach issues from different vantage points. Our students participate in conferences in the Greater Manchester area and further afield. We also welcome students from other schools to MUN events held at MGS.
Message from the MGSMUN Co-Directors, Emma Kilheeney and Benjamin North:
We aim to provide participants with a realistic simulation of the United Nations' workings, and promote debate of the highest quality. Through MGSMUN, we hope to promote an awareness of current global issues, as well as encourage tolerance, understanding and compromise.
Scenarios within MUN allow conference delegates to gain a unique understanding of present national and international issues, and further develop their ability to respond to these dynamic situations. From conducting initial research and the writing of resolutions, to effectively representing and defending these views, MGSMUN challenges participants to negotiate, empathise, and compromise.
We also hope to combine the academic challenge of MUN with an opportunity for socialising, and getting to meet other like-minded people. MGSMUN is not intended to be daunting, but a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
