Careers

The School is committed to ensuring that our pupils are aware of the career opportunities that are available to them during and after their time at MGS. In line with the purpose of the School, our careers education programme prepares our pupils with the set of skills, knowledge and experiences to enable them to lead rich and fulfilled careers whereby they may positively impact their communities.

The School’s Careers Lead, Miss Tidey, oversees the delivery of the careers education programme throughout the School in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks. The programme involves assemblies, tutorials, dedicated careers events and exhibitions, as well as one to one meetings to ensure that our pupils receive impartial careers guidance and are well informed about their career options.

Our pupils have access to careers and university support through the Unifrog platform. This is supplemented by the MGS Global Connect online platform which enables our 6th Form pupils to benefit from higher education and careers guidance form alumni, as well as make arrangements for work experience placements. Work experience placements typically take place for our Year 12 pupils during Activities Week in June.

We aim to survey pupils each year to ascertain the careers they are interested in and the areas of subject they wish to pursue, in order to evolve our careers programme to meet their needs.

2023 Career Activities

During 2023, a range of careers events and talks were offered to students from the Lower School right through to the Sixth Form. Where possible, we try and showcase a wide range of industries and potential career paths from finance to technology, media to medicine.

Some of the highlights from last year include:
  • The Student Trading Competition
  • Biennial Careers Fair
  • Mock Medical Interviews
  • Careers in Industry Evening
  • Introduction to Degree Apprenticeships
  • Students in Lower and Middle School were given an introduction to careers which included identifying soft and hard skills, Labour Market Information and access to careers events

The School helped arrange work experience placements for many of its Year 12 students enabling them to have meaningful interactions within the workplace as well as enhance their CVs and personal statements.
