OM Soham Shah achieves the highest A Level Computer Science mark in the world

Congratulations to OM Soham Shah (13-24) on achieving the highest mark in the world for Cambridge International A Level Computer Science in the June 2024 examinations.

Soham shared the following words: “Studying Computer Science has always been an incredibly rewarding experience for me. I’ve always been drawn to its deeply logical nature—problem-solving, analytical thinking, and mathematical reasoning are skills I find both satisfying and intellectually stimulating. At MGS, I was fortunate to learn in an interactive and engaging environment, with excellent support from my teachers. Their guidance and enthusiasm for the subject played a huge role in developing my passion and interest in pursuing Computer Science at university. During my time at MGS, I was proud to receive the Computer Science Prize in Years 10, 11, and 13, as well as Distinctions in the Perse Coding Competition and the UK Bebras Challenge. Beyond the classroom, I co-chaired CyberSoc, the school’s Computer Science society, where I organised and presented talks to encourage discussion and engagement with the subject beyond the curriculum. Now studying Computer Science at the University of Cambridge, I’m enjoying the academic rigour and theoretical depth of the course. The supervision system has been particularly valuable, allowing me to explore concepts in detail through discussions with leading researchers and professors. Studying at Cambridge also provides incredible opportunities—careers fairs, industry talks, and networking events expose me to cutting-edge developments in the field and connections with industry leaders”.

He continued: “Looking ahead, I hope to pursue a career in quantitative finance or machine learning, aiming to work as a software engineer. I’m particularly excited by the prospect of applying my skills and working on impactful and interesting projects and challenges that merge programming, mathematics, and problem-solving. I’m eager to be a part of the progression into a world integrated with AI and machine learning. Achieving the highest A-Level mark in the world is something I’m extremely proud of. It’s a reflection of my dedication to the subject and the outstanding support I received from my teachers. I’m truly grateful for their guidance and encouragement, and I look forward to continuing my journey in Computer Science”.
